Art will come into sharp focus this fall in Paris, with Bank Mirabaud getting matters off to a strong start together with the unmistakable Centre Pompidou. The two will provide the largest retrospective yet of the surrealist movement.

It has now been a century since the official manifesto of the surrealists, with the Centre Pompidou in Paris commemorating the event with an exhibition entitled « Surréalisme ». To be held between 4 September 2024 and 13 January 2025, it will be devoted to the international movement made famous by the publication «La Révolution surréaliste» (English: The Surrealist Revolution)», subsequently helping it become one of the most influential artistic, literary and philosophical waves of the 2oth century.

Third in Succession

«We are pleased to be able to support one of the most important exhibitions at the Centre Pompidou together with our office in Paris», explains Lionel Aeschlimann, a managing partner at Mirabaud. «This large event in art is an inexhaustible reservoir of creative inspiration and amazement.» Before the current exhibition, Mirabaud had backed the Christian Marclay exhibit in 2022 and a Pablo Picasso one at Centre Pompidou in 2023.

More than a Sponsorship

Mirabaud sees this as much more than a plain sponsorship. Stéphane Jaouen, Head of the wealth management business in France, emphasizes the meaning of partnership in its current efforts: «Our cooperation with Centre Pompidou mirrors our conviction of the transformative power of artistic expression. Innovation and the ability to be open to new possibilities are fundamental aspects of Mirabaud's heritage.»

Hand in Hand with Literature

The exhibition will be held in one of the largest Centre Pompidou galleries and it will offer a comprehensive panorama of the surrealist movement. It is built around literary figures that formed the inspiration of the surrealists, such as LautréamontLewis Carroll and Marquis de Sade, as well as ancient myths.

Continued Tradition

Mirabaud's founding family has owned the institution for over 200 years. It is internationally active and sees its support of contemporary art as a continuation of its deep heritage. «Supporting the centenary of this movement, something that had such a deep influence on 2oth century art also means celebrating the values that are closest to our heart. Innovation, creativity and passion,» according to Aeschlimann.
